Productivity Apps For The iPad - They Do Exist

So after all the hype of the iPad in recent posts, I eventually managed to get my hands on one. I'm not going to attempt to review it in this post as there is so much to cover, and others have done a far more comprehensive job of this. What I will say though, is that if you thought that the iPad was a device only good for watching video, viewing pics and reading news via apps or browser, then you are horribly wrong.

Its early days yet, but there are already a number of very useful "productivity" apps available for this marvel device. One such application, which I had the pleasure of putting to good use recently, is an app called iThoughts HD. Its essentially a mind mapping application that allows one to tap, type, drag, pinch and squeeze notes and ideas into a structured map of thoughts. Its not quite Minority Report stuff yet, but when you use it for the first time, it comes close. (Note, I only speak for the iPad app here. There is an iPhone version, but I have not tried it out yet).

Check this out (ignore the mouse in the demo video - this should actually your finger)...

The Wait Is Over - iPad is finally here.

It has been the topic of speculation for a number of years now, but the wait is finally over. Steve Jobs announced the arrival of Apple's latest and greatest gadget this evening - the Apple iPad. I'm not going to cover all the specs and details about what it can and can't do, as Engadget have done a fantastic job of that here, but what I will say is that in my opinion, this marks the start of a change in how we engage with media and applications going forward. Everything from music, photos and video, to newspapers, books, gaming and office applications. This has to be one of the great devices of our time.
